The Characteristics of Micropunch-needled Lightweight Nonwovens
The use of needlelooms for the consolidation of nonwoven is becoming increasingly important due to the sustainability of the process, as it requires no water, gas, or chemicals. Released in 2023, this new Micropunch-Technology, low-weight nonwovens can be needled at speeds exceeding 100 m/min, placing them in the same range as wipes produced by a Card-Crosslapper line. The Micropunch-technology offers high-density needling boards with up to 45,000 specialty needles per meter of working width on one board. Three needlelooms in a row, therefore, provide a significantly extended needling capacity, which, based on Hyperpunch elliptic needling, can offer the highest needling capacity. The new technology can save up to 75% of energy and requires less production space. Needling offers different characteristics compared to water entanglement, benefiting the properties and haptics of wipes. The presentation focuses on the textile technological differences of needled material compared to water-entangled material, such as absorption rate and thickness, and their benefits for the industry.
