BIOGRAPHY

Mike Shannon is a microbiologist by training with more than 30 years of experience in the medical and nonwoven manufacturing industries. He began his career in diagnostics sales with Abbott Laboratories before joining Pacon, where he initially led the sterilization division. Mike later launched Pacon's direct-to-dealer medical device division, eventually moving into manufacturing leadership and becoming President in the 1990s.

From medical drapes to wipes, Mike has spent decades innovating in the cutting, folding, sealing, and packaging of roll goods, always with a focus on creative problem-solving and practical solutions. Today, as Chief Solutions Officer at Pacon, he brings that same energy to developing smart, scalable solutions for both internal operations and external partners.

They Don’t Just Wipe – They Deliver!

This talk will review new categories that were created for wipes by understanding that wipes are actually delivery systems that are capable of delivering complex technologies to create more efficient and better products. Over the years the wipes category grew from incremental innovations like make up remover, acne, and moist toilet tissue. Other specialty wipes have emerged recently that have created niche wipes like bug repellent, pet and nose wipes etc. The category has seen some out of the box innovation with the biggest being floor and household leading the way with new products that utilize wipes technology for example, Brillo scrub and toss, paint/stain applicators, cleansing pillows, headbands, window cleaners, shoe deodorizers and more. This talk will be a fun, exploratory, journey on how these were created, from process to substrate, and offer thought about where we could go next.
