Charles Miller, Ph.D.

Global Technical Director - Helix Fiber, International Paper

BIOGRAPHY

Chuck Miller has been serving the pulp and nonwovens industries for over 30 years. He started his career at Weyerhaeuser Company as a scientist providing technical and customer service to regional and global fluff pulp customers in air-laid and absorbent product segments. A move to Ahlstrom as Principle Scientist in the food and beverage business offered the opportunity to conduct research/product development on wet laid nonwovens and on bico spun laid PLA based filter media. Chuck returned to cellulose R&D as a project manager, project management advisor, and ultimately Helix platform leader at Weyerhaeuser. Currently, Chuck is the Global Technical Director responsible for technical leadership of the Helix modified fiber platform at International Paper Company. Helix (also known as “curly fiber”) is used in absorbents, filtration media, board, specialty papers, and more recently wipes.

Chuck earned his Ph.D. from The Institute of Paper Science and Technology, a Masters degree from The Institute of Paper Chemistry, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University. Chuck is inventor/co-inventor on over 20 product and process patents in the US.
