A New Sustainable Cellulosic Fiber Option for Nonwovens
Consumer behaviors and choices are being influenced more than ever before by awareness and concerns about the sustainability of products. Increasing regulation, social activism, and public perception are driving brand commitments and value chain responses in consumer markets toward solutions that embody the principles of a circular economy.
Eastman’s innovation-driven growth strategy and commitment to create value through sustainability are driving the company’s efforts to advance circular-economy principles. Two recently announced innovations—advanced circular recycling technology and carbon renewal technology—will create new uses for products or materials otherwise reaching end of life.
Eastman recently developed and commercialized Vestera™ cellulosic fiber for baby/consumer wipes, facial masks, and other high performance nonwoven hygiene applications. This fiber is produced using renewable cellulose derived from wood pulp, is biodegradable, and delivers enhanced performance such as softness, loft, and pattern resolution. Vestera™ can be easily blended with other fibers, including man-made cellulosic or synthetic fibers, to optimize performance in use and at end of life.
